The concept of ‘mountain resort’ is used here as a design theme to facilitate wayfinding and natural design elements for this hospital in Chongqing, known as China’s ‘mountain city’. The mountain resort theme also serves as a reminder that a hospital can be designed not only as a place to cure illness, but as a salutogenic environment that promotes health, in all its aspects. This project won a 2015 International Interior Design Association Award (IIDA) for healthcare.
