Caohejing 3-5

Shanghai | 2,300 sqm | 2017
The client is a major developer in China and laid down the challenge to design something radically different to their established sophisticated and elegant aesthetic. This new public space design was for a trio of buildings in a new development area in Shanghai zoned as an upcoming technology hub. As a well-established and respected state sector developer, their new design had to speak to a younger audience and attract innovative and forward-thinking companies without compromising the developer’s own esteemed brand and values. The space itself also posed design challenges, such as how to resolve the narrow double-height lobby to create a more comfortable and human-centric public space. As the surroundings were also brand new and relatively sterile, the design had to consider creating an environment that brought life and activity not only within the building but also to the existing architecture and urban design.
